UK TRAVEL // Little Heath Tearoom in Potten End

May I present you the extremely well hidden Hertfordshire gem that is the Little Heath Tearoom in Potten End! It is part of the Little Heath Farm Nursery, based in a peaceful location not far from Ashridge National Trust. It has a lovely cottage garden ambience amongst the wildness of nature.

If you follow me on instagram you know I have been visiting Helena, who runs Dottie about Cake and the Little Heath Tearoom, a lot. Ever since my first visit with Katy from Buzz Hub Co back in September.

The Little Heath Tearoom in Potten End lays almost hidden amongst the ferns and drooping heads of tall herbaceous plants. Scattered around are rustic chairs and tables set also amongst aged climbing plants that almost dip into your (vintage) teacup. It serves traditional English style teas, cakes, cream teas, including a delicious gluten free range and cafetière coffee. It is all very, very laid back, and a pleasant change to coffee chains.

Anyone who has visited the Little Heath Tearoom cannot get over how special the setting is. Every time I go I feel transported to another country – and it is (possibly) why I go there so often. Escapism amongst plants. and the friendliest of service. Quirky, rustic and homely. In my head, it feels like a throw back to English cafés fifty years ago but with charm and foliage.

Nothing is too much bother. When I arrived last week, Helena was serving cream tea at 10.30 am. A lady and her elderly Mum were having cream tea in the car – like a drive-in. It is lovely to see people of all ages coming to enjoy tea and cake in the safe outside space.

Unsurprisingly, time loses meaning when you visit the Little Heath Tearoom and the nursery. The tearoom does get busy, once you know where it is, you will go back. Do pay it a visit with a curious eye, and I think that you will enjoy it.
