UK Travel // A weekend Away at Plas Uchaf in Wales

I am finally catching up with blogging about some lovely places I have visited over the last 6 months – and you might like to visit as well. And I will start with Plas Uchaf, or the Big House on the Hill as it is known on Instagram. I stayed a weekend out there with my friends as part of a photography collaboration. It was in February, so I feel the pictures are very much a reflection of that season in Wales – and the cosiness of the house. It was an incredible weekend away with amazing views and so much to do.

Built in 1796, the Big House on the Hill is a loose translation of its Welsh name, Plas Uchaf (literally ‘highest place’). Standing in an elevated unique position overlooking the Tanat Valley. The house has no near neighbours and is nestled in beautiful gardens. The house has been restored with attention, and decorated with the greatest taste by the owners. All the rooms are different, and with their own bathrooms. It was really hard to chose our owns. However we all made full use of all the living areas – the morning room for breakfast, the cosy living room with a warming fireplace and finally the cosy TV room for our evenings. It was a different world.

Of course, having one weekend away with my university friends, without my children, was already a real treat by itself – but spending some time at Plas Uchaf made it a memorable experience. Our favourite experience was to take our wine glasses to the outdoor ‘Bien-Etre’ area with the outdoor tub in our wardrobes, a mini spa with incredible views. We went every day, I could not believe we were there. I may have repeated it a few times (just a few) throughout our stay actually.

Plas Uchaf, or the the Big House on the Hill, is a the perfect chilled gateway between friends, or for a family reunion. There is so much to do at the actual house, but around in the area as well. I feel that this would also be an amazing location for retreats – especially with the number of bedrooms and facilities available, and general space for everyone to relax. For other places to go to you might enjoy, you can read some of their posts in my journal.
