As a photographer, I am always on the lookout for locations that inspire and captivate me, and that the children will enjoy. There’s something undeniably enchanting about cottage life weekend getaways that blend timeless charm with contemporary comforts. Cotswolds Escape in Southrop has something for everyone.
Nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds, Cotswolds Escape is the epitome of quintessential English charm. Step inside, and you’ll find an interior that has been thoughtfully curated, blending antique charm with modern touches. As featured in Period Living and Ideal Home, the interiors of Cotswolds Escape are a photographer’s dream. The newly installed kitchen, bespoke furniture, and carefully chosen art and antiques provide a rich tapestry of textures and colours. Each room tells its own story with cozy nooks created in each room.
Step outside, and imagine wandering through a village that feels like it’s been plucked straight from a storybook. Whether it’s the soft morning light casting a glow on honey-colored stone cottages or the vibrant hues of blooming gardens, this village offers endless inspiration.
After a day of enjoying the essence of rural life, you’re just a short stroll away from a cozy pub as well as a high-end restaurant, perfect for unwinding and refuelling. The blend of rustic interiors with the art curated by Gretchen herself provides a unique backdrop for a weekend away.
For those of us who love gardens, the beautifully landscaped gardens of Cotswolds Escape are a dream. It was raining the weekend we went (I mean it was July, and we packed as if it was November), and in the end we did not manage to enjoy the gardens as much as I hoped. But it was already a treat to walk around the gardens, and enjoy all the greens. With ample space for outdoor dining, these gardens are designed to be both a visual delight and a sanctuary of peace. No al fresco dinner but intricate details of seasonal flowers, and a time surrounded by natural beauty. The carefully planned layout, with its meandering paths and cozy seating areas, adds depth and character to Cotswolds Escape. For me the gardens were one of the main reasons I wanted to stay at the cottage – and one the reasons I took the drone for some impromptu drone photography.
The surrounding countryside offers a myriad of opportunities for outdoor activities. Scenic trails, with rolling hills and lush meadows stretching as far as the eye can see, the landscape is a changing canvas that keeps you inspired.
For those drawn to the charm of small towns, picturesque market towns like Burford and the boutiques of Stow-on-the-Wold are just a short drive away. We ate at the newly opened ‘Village Pub’ which is run under the Pig brand. The village of Southrop is itself really picturesque, and away from all the other touristy villages.
If you’re looking for a weekend away that offers the perfect blend of natural beauty, historic charm, and modern luxury, look no more and book Cotswolds Escape.
I booked (and paid) this weekend for us as a family, and this blog post reflects my own views. But to be transparent, I was lucky enough to have Gretchen reached out and buy some of my pictures when I came back home. If you are looking at collaborating with a photographer in exchange of a weekend away, we always consider these opportunities as a family, so do not hesitate to get in touch for more information.
